I watched both candidates talk. One encouraged ALL Americans to volunteer, young, old, etc. The other played only to the young people. What are the older people, something to throw out? Remember Mr. BO, if you live long enough, you too will be old, do you want someone talking to you as though you were good for nothing? I was highly offended and angered by Mr. Obama's remarks.
John McCain talked about encouraging people to volunteer. To do more for others. Do it even if the govt doesn't pay you to do it. I agree helping people to do more, like volunteer for the Americorps, the Peace Corps, the military is something that is very important and we need to reward them. Especially the military who put their lives (and the welfare of their family) on the line. Those who join Americorps and Peace Corps get benefits of money to go to school. To improve their future and hopefully go back to work with others to bring benefits to all Americans.
It seemed to me that John McCain sought people to stand up and serve and that Mr. Obama wanted to create more govt. Same-o, same-o. Bigger govt and bigger taxes. Talk to the young who are unable to make choices because of brain development and ignore those of us who have lived a little more of life to have witnessed another day the world stood still.
I, and many other "older" people, do many kinds of volunteer work. I teach knitting and help in the community, to donate the products of my sticks and string to others. Hats, scarves and mittens for others in need, as well as baby things for prospective mothers.
Since Mr. Obama feels that the govt should do the giving (remind me again, isn't that MY tax money you are using), HE IS A GREAT EXAMPLE. He only gives 1%, YES THAT IS ONLY ONE PERCENT, a penny on the dollar, to charity, or to church or to any other entity that helps those in need. No wonder he went to a church where the preacher told others to god damn america and other such bigoted hatred. He is a real example of living a lie.
So let those of us who do, respect those others who do as well. Those who have served our country throughout their lives and get this misogynist, craven, disgraceful, egocentric, bigoted person who thinks that he should represent me a boot. We give, even when we cannot afford to; he takes even though he could afford to.
